“USB Serial Converter” is a simple and reliable communication converter, that transforms USB-stream to two asynchronous serial ports with RS-232 interface. It is intended for installation of two additional asynchronous serial ports with RS-232 to a ready and fully functioning system. The main difference between this device from others like him is galvanically isolated USB interface. This feature allows you to connect devices with different power supply (located on different electrical phases) to your computer without fear of damaging it. Among other things, device equipped with a system of ESD protection that allows you to use this device in the harsh environment. This is the best solution for laptops, desktops, servers and thin clients, when the system unit is under warranty and you can not just add a PCI Port Expander card simply disassembled the case. The converter is fully compatible with USB specification version 1.1 and 2.0 and supports ”Plug and Play” technology. To use Serial Converter device, you need only connect device to the computer using the supplied USB cable and install the driver under the appropriate operating system. The device will be ready to work even without a reboot. Supported all Windows® operating systems and Linux.

The key areas of interface converter applications
:

Industrial applications:

Petrol stations

POS and Bank Equipment:

Connect additional peripherals with RS-232 interface (MSR, Bar-Code Scanner, Receipt Printer, RFID, Pole display) to one POS terminal

Functionality

Interface converter includes a USB-controller ASIC with two asynchronous hardware UART-s that supports:

Asynchronous serial speed up to 1Mbps

Сhoice parity for serial data (Odd/Even/Mark/Space)

Choice one or two stop bits configuration for data exchange

Set the data byte size to 7 or 8 bits

Select hardware or software flow control

Working with the “Event Character”

Line “Break” detection

Change internal FIFO threshold

Adjust timeout for the receive buffer

The RS-232 drivers with the ability of disable input/output buffers are used for serial asynchronous lines. RS-232 drivers are switched into the 'Off' state after detecting USB “Standby” event. This feature used for reduction power consumption in the idle state. To prevent the breakdown of the input buffers, all serial lines protected via bidirectional suppressors. The USB interface of the built-in controller is galvanically isolated from the computer's USB bus (insulation up to 2.5kV) and it also protected by ESD suppressors. Two LEDs mounted near each RS-232 DB9M connector, are used for visualization of the operation mode (transmission/reception).
